This illustration was a self promotional piece. I used this in flyers and card and also made T-shirts with this illustration on it promoting 'illustrations by D.T. LaVercombe'. It was created by using scratch board — a method of taking a board covered in black ink and 'scratching' away the black to reveal the white. In a way it is like doing woodblocks for printing, just more immediate. The original of this is a pieced together board, I first conceived it with only half of the moon on the page. I decided later that the whole moon was needed so I attached a new piece of board to the top and finished off the moon. This image seen here is from a PMT print take while I work at a Denver screen printing shop in the late eighties.
